The department of Return of Cases and Archives was created in 2003 to serve as a central office for documentation and storage of all cases filled in the FCT High Court after disposal. Having a centralized storage for case files will allow access to disposed of case files with ease of reference and ensure the safety and integrity of the documents.

The department is located at the High Court premises Apo and has a total number of 19 staff members.

 

FUNCTIONS

The department has two units namely Return of Cases Unit and Archive Unit and their functions are as specified below;

Return of Cases Unit: is responsible for returns from all courts in High Court System i.e, the High Courts and the Magistrate Courts. The returns from the High Courts are collated and transmitted to the National Judicial Council as required by law, with a copy to the Chief Judge, while the returns from the Magistrate Courts are collated and transmitted to the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court.

Archive Unit: is responsible for receiving all disposed case files in the FCT High Court System. The files are then sorted, recorded and filed in both soft and hard copy.
